Millers Mills Ice Harvest
The Millers Mills Ice Harvest is scheduled for Sunday February 11th, 2007. Due to the warm winter in 2006, last year's ice harvest was cancelled. This year has started out warm, but the recent cold snap has been building up ice on the mill pond and they hope to be able to hold the event. This is a great event for young and old alike. See how ice blocks were taken from bodies of water and stored to keep food cold. At this event, ice from the pond is cut into blocks, and taken by horse-drawn sleighs to an ice house. There it is stored for use in the summer for the annual ice cream social. That event is scheduled for July 15th, 2007. The social includes a 5K road race which was introduced in 1995. The race is held at 10AM with prizes following the race. There is also a cross-cut saw contest for spectators, a church bizzare and everyone enjoys live music supplied by Brian Dickenson. Don't forget the most important attraction is the homemade Ice Cream (Frozen Custard). For more information view the press release, or contact: David Huxtable, Ice Harvest Chaiman 315/822-5283 |
