THE MUSEUMS ANNOUNCE SPRING AND SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR THE FOOD FOR THOUGHT LUNCH AND LECTURE SERIESFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MARCH 10, 2008 COOPERSTOWN, N.Y., March 10, 2008— Food for Thought, the popular lunch-and-lecture series of The Farmers’ Museum and the Fenimore Art Museum, kicks off the 2008 season on March 19 with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Fenimore Art Museum. All programs are held on Wednesday beginning at noon at the Fenimore Art Museum or The Farmers’ Museum. Behind the Scenes at the Fenimore Art Museum, March 19 Join Fenimore Art Museum Curators Chris Rossi and Nisha Bansil on a rare behind-the-scenes look at exhibit preparation and installation for the 2008 season. Participants will glimpse the installation process and learn what it takes to go from concept to completed exhibit. Gustav Stickley: The Enlightened Home, April 9 Join Paul D’Ambrosio, Vice President and Chief Curator of the Fenimore Art Museum, on a tour of our fascinating exhibit highlighting the life and work of Gustav Stickley, a pioneer of the American Art and Crafts movement. Remembering Cooperstown: Photographs by Smith & Telfer, April 23 Wayne Wright, Associate Director of the NYSHA Library, leads this tour which is sure to ignite interest in Cooperstown’s history for those new to the area and refresh memories from childhood of longtime residents. Rural Icons: Photographs by Richard Walker, May 7 Enjoy a special gallery tour with the artist himself. Richard Walker will lead visitors through his visually splendid reminiscences of Otsego County’s treasured landscapes, objects, and people. Sneak Peek: Grand Opening of the Jonas More House, May 21 Be one of the first to see the completed interpretation of the Jonas More House before its official opening Memorial Day weekend. Join The Farmers’ Museum staff for a discussion of the Jonas More House: past, present, and future. Gilded Lions and Jeweled Horses: The Synagogue to the Carousel, June 11 Paul D’Ambrosio, Vice President and Chief Curator for the Fenimore Art Museum, will provide the stories and details to truly bring this exciting exhibit of intricate artwork to life. The exhibit, on tour from the American Folk Art Museum in New York, brings together extraordinary examples of majestic synagogue carvings—gilded lions, Decalogues, crowns and eagles as well as intricate paper cuts—juxtaposed against dynamic carousel figures created for Brooklyn’s Coney Island and others. Participants in Food For Thought meet at the Fenimore Art Museum or The Farmers’ Museum at noon for a delicious buffet lunch. Pre-registration and cancellations are required by the Friday prior to the program. Cancellations not made by the Friday preceding the program will be charged in full. Cost for the lunch and lecture is $20.00 for the general public and $15.00 for members of the New York State Historical Association. The program lasts for about an hour and one half to two hours. The Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum, two distinct institutions that together explore and present the diverse history, art, and culture of rural American life, are located across from each other on Lake Road, Route 80, in Cooperstown, NY. Admission to each museum is $11 for adults, $9.50 for visitors age 65 and over, and $5 for children age 7 to 12; children 6 and under and members are admitted free. Reduced price combination admission tickets that include both museums and The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum are also available. The Fenimore Art Museum is open from April 1 through December 31; The Farmers’ Museum is open from April 1 through October 31, with special events throughout the year.
